Last week, the World Health Organization made a move which will have enormous social implications for the countries hardest hit by the Zika virus. It recommended that millions of people consider delaying pregnancies to avoid the risk of giving birth to a baby with brain damage. The mosquito-borne virus is now present in over 50 countries. Officials on the US territory of Puerto Rico warn that some 20 percent of the island's 3.5 million population could soon be infected with Zika.
