The Islamic State (IS) group is pushing back hard to prevent Iraqi troops from gaining ground in Mosul. FRANCE 24's Gallagher Fenwick reports from the battlefield.
Clear skies mean aircraft from the anti-IS group coalition can bomb enemy positions. But despite air support, the soldiers have a hard time holding onto territory they have conquered in their fight against the jihadists.
"You can hear our forces firing shots on the other side," says one Iraqi sergeant. "They're cleaning up, liberating that part of the city."
But the soldiers know there is still a lot of work to be done before the city is completely free from IS group control.
