The FRANCE 24 team in Cannes took a break from the film industry frenzy in Cannes to check out the annual ultra-glamorous amfAR bash. One of the social highlights of the festival -- and the year -- the fundraiser featured a very special auction.

A-list actors, musicians and supermodels all dashed from Cannes along the French Riviera to the world-famous Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc to raise funds for HIV-AIDS research.

The superstars digging deep in their pockets was like a ‘Who’s who of Hollywood’, with Nicole Kidman, Leonardo DiCaprio, David Beckham, Bella Hadid and Uma Thurman all in attendance, to name but a few.

The items auctioned off included a collection of classic Hollywood portraits for around 2 million euros; a chance to play football with Beckham for 350,000 euros and a 1958 Jaguar XK150 which was sold for 600,000 euros.

This year's event raised an eye-watering 18 million euros.

Olivia Salazar-Winspear sent us this report from the red carpet.
