At least one person is dead and ten have been injured after a van hit pedestrians in the Finsbury Park area of north London on Monday, say police.

London police say one person was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision near Finsbury Park Mosque in North London.

At least ten people have been injured according to police.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested and counter-terrorism police are investigating.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Seven Sisters Road at 12.15am on Monday.

The Muslim Council of Britain said a van "intentionally" ran over worshippers leaving night prayers held during the holy month of Ramadan.

The British Prime Minister will chair an emergency response meeting later today.
