TALKING EUROPE

Politicians, activists and researchers debate the issues facing the EU and a 'guest of the week' offers their insight in a long-format interview that gets to the heart of the matter. Saturday at 12.10 pm.

Latest update : 2018-03-19

Europe in a digital world: EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel

Our guest is the newest member of the European Commission. Mariya Gabriel is a member of the Bulgarian prime minister's GERB party. She is also someone who knows the European institutions well, having served as an MEP since 2009. Last year she took on the Digital Economy and Society portfolio, just months before her native Bulgaria took over the rotating EU presidency.

We ask her just how "digital" Europe is: how the EU thinks a move to a more high-tech culture will improve daily life for Europeans, how the Commission intends to get us up to speed with digital skills, and how cyberattacks and fake news threaten the EU’s citizens and institutions.

A programme presented by Catherine Nicholson.

Produced by Isabelle Romero and Roxane Runel.
