Strike leaves Alitalia flights grounded
Italy's ailing carrier Alitalia was forced to cancel 114 flights after ground personnel fearful of losing their jobs started a wildcat strike. Alitalia is expected to sign an alliance with Air France after its takeover by an Italian investor group.
Alitalia keeps name and plans to take off again
The Italian Air Company, which took over Alitalia to rescue the Italian carrier, has announced that the company will not change its name. The new Alitalia, which merged with competitor Air One, will take off again starting on January 13.

Labour protests have added to the turbulance at Rome's Fiumicino airport, forcing the Italian national carrier, Alitalia, to cancel 43 fights. Protests by ground crew on Monday caused 74 cancellations.

German's leading airline, Lufthansa, has announced it will launch an Italian subsidiary, Lufthansa Italia, which will offer flights from Milan Malpensa airport to several European cities from February 2009.
Rome agrees on Alitalia sale to consortium
The Italian government has decided to put an end to the Alitalia takeover saga by giving the go-ahead on the airline company's sale to a consortium of Italian investors for one billion euros. The group plans to cut some 3,250 jobs.
