Boonen and Quick Step to contest Tour ban
Tom Boonen and his team have decided to contest a decision by Tour de France organisers to ban the Belgian cyclist from this year's race after he twice tested positive for cocaine.

The 2004 Olympic time-trial champion Tyler Hamilton has been given an eight-year ban by the US Anti-Doping Agency after he admitted to taking a banned substance. The American cyclist had already announced his retirement.

Former Tour de France winner Laurent Fignon says he has been diagnosed with cancer. The former French cyclist, beloved of the home crowd, also admitted to having used banned substances, though he did not think the two were related.

Boonen may compete despite second positive test for cocaine
The International Cycling Union says it won't be able to rule on a positive drugs test involving Belgian rider Tom Boonen before the July 4-26 Tour de France, making him eligible to compete. The Tour will decide on his participation separately.

Spaniard Colom tests positive for EPO
Spanish cyclist Antonio Colom, who made an impressive season start by finishing fifth at the Paris-Nice, has been provisionally suspended after a positive EPO test. He is the second rider to fail the test in less than six weeks.

France's Gasquet says he never took cocaine knowingly
French tennis star Richard Gasquet, who tested positive for cocaine ahead of the Miami Open, assured the public he did so unknowingly. According to the French media, he has filed a complaint with the courts to investigate the incident.

Hingis all but rules out another comeback
Switzerland's Martina Hingis, who once reigned supreme over women's tennis, says she is unlikely to attempt another comeback after her doping ban. Hingis, now 29, retired a second time in 2007 after testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon.

Valverde banned from competing in Italy for two years
Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde is suspended from competition in Italy for two years because of his implication in a blood doping scandal. He cannot participate in this year's Tour de France which passes through Italy.
