Manchester United and Juventus held on to the top spot in their groups with draws respectively against AaB Aalborg (2-2) and BATE Borisov (0-0). Arsenal, defeated 2-0 in Porto, qualify in second behind the Portuguese club.

Chelsea join Premiership's top clubs in last 16
With a scrappy 2-1 win over Romanian club Cluj, Chelsea booked its ticket for the knockout stages after Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United. Greece's Panathinaikos also secured a precious win in their last game to reach the last 16.

Fear mounts for Marseille-Atletico Madrid match
Around 1,000 police will be on duty in and around the Velodrome in Marseille for Tuesday's Champions League match between Olympique Marseille and Atletico Madrid. Tension has risen after a Marseille fan was jailed in Spain last week.

The Marseille fan sentenced last Friday to three and a half years in jail for stadium clashes during his team's visit to Atletico Madrid has been released after paying 6,000 euros in bail, hours before the teams meet again in Marseille.

Real Madrid pick Ramos as new coach
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has replaced Bernd Schuster as Real Madrid coach, just four days ahead of Spain's 'classico' against FC Barcelona. Schuster's departure was precipitated by a string of poor results.

AC Milan and Juventus keep in touch with leader Inter Milan
Juventus and AC Milan painfully won their respective games against Lecce and Catania to remain six points behind unstoppable leaders Inter Milan, who crushed hosting Lazio 3-0 Saturday to move on to 36 points from 15 games.

Ribery voted best French player of the year
Franck Ribery was elected best French player of the year by the weekly France Football. It's the second time in a row the Bayern Munich international midfielder receives the prize. Arsenal's Arsene Wenger was voted best French manager.
