The military regime has also demonstrated some efforts towards freedom by releasing hundreds of political prisoners. French businessman Michel Thierry Atangana has spent the past 15 years behind bars in Cameroon. In 1997 he was accused of embezzling public funds, put on trial without a lawyer and sentenced to 15 years in jail. A court in the capital Yaoundé will soon decide if he can walk out of prison a free man or remain in his cell for another 15 years. After years of legal wrangling, the families of Argentina's stolen children have finally seen justice done. Former dictators Jorge Videla and Reynaldo Bignone, both already serving life sentences for their roles in Argentina's "Dirty War", which left nearly 30 thousand political opponants missing or dead, were convicted for their part in abducting the children of political prisoners. The verdict only came about because of the tireless work of a group of determined grandmothers.
