Does the French Model create the problem in the larger towns and cities of unemployment, and crime all being centralized on one particular place? France was the home of the modern architectural thought that produced the model estates of the 1960s, 70s. And today the projects built for good have largely gone wrong. What then to do with a concentration of social problems, and the people who say their life has disconnected them from any chance of progress?

The French National Assembly approved plans Tuesday to create "Greater Paris", the bill must now clear the Senate for final approval. The plan would cost 21 billion euros, with the aim of creating closer ties between Paris and its surrounding suburbs

French youths jailed for role in 2007 Paris suburb riots
Ten youths, all aged between 18 to 25, were found guilty of attacking police officers during two nights of rioting in Villiers-le-Bel, a Paris suburb, in 2007. A French court handed them prison sentences of between one and three years on Friday.
