Avatar at the Oscars: too much hype?

9 Oscar nominations, no less! James Cameron's Avatar could well be the toast of Hollywood on March 7th when the winners of the Academy Awards will be announced. The futuristic movie is the most expensive but also the most profitable one in the history of cinema. Some hail Avatar as a visionary movie, while others see it more as an overrated blockbuster.

‘Avatar’ and ‘The Hurt Locker’ lead the Oscar race

The Academy of Motion Pictures announced its nominations for the 82nd Oscars. This year “Avatar” and The Hurt Locker” scored nine nominations and French film "Un Prophète" has been nominated for best foreign language film.
