Eric Woerth has now admitted sending a letter to Nicolas Sarkozy in 2007 arguing for the Legion of Honour to be bestowed on a party donor, Patrice de Maistre. Woerth had previously told police that he had in no way lobbied on behalf of Maistre.

French singer Johnny Hallyday left the Cedars Sinai hospital on Wednesday to spend Christmas with his family in his Los Angeles home. He will continue to undergo intensive medical treatment.
