Nine days of sport and culture in Beirut
Lebanon plays host to the nine-day Francophone Games starting Sunday, an event that it is hoped will improve the country's image abroad. Some 3,000 athletes from 42 countries will be taking part in six sports disciplines and seven cultural events.

A woman was shot dead by a stray bullet in west Beirut on Sunday, caught in the crossfire between supporters of Shiite parliament speaker Nabih Berri's Amal movement and the majority Future movement.

Israel buries returned soldiers
Israel is burying soldiers Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev, whose remains were returned in a UN-brokered prisoner swap with Lebanon's Hezbollah. In return, Israel released five Lebanese prisoners, including convicted murderer Samir Qantar.
