Organisers of the Tri-Nations series officially handed Argentina an invitation to join the competition from 2012. The Pumas will join Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in the elite southern hemisphere rugby tournament.
The dominant World champions South Africans held off a late All Blacks charge for a 32-29 victory to secure the Tri-Nations rugby crown for the first time in five years. It is the third time that South Africa has won the trophy.
South Africa beat Australia 29-17 (halftime 23-10) in their Tri-Nations match at Newlands, Cape Town. The boot of flyhalf Morne Steyn (24 points) once again carried South Africa to victory.
The Springboks confirmed their dominance in the 2009 Tri-Nations by beating the All Blacks 31-19 on Saturday in Durban. This is South Africa's second consecutive Tri-Nations victory over New Zealand after their 28-19 win last weekend.
Left out so far by regional competitions, Argentina, the world's number four team, will finally join the Tri-Nations in 2012. The Super 14 southern-hemisphere rugby championship will add another Australian club to become the Super 15.
