Volkswagen recalls 16,000 minivans in the US over fire risk

Volkswagen of America is recalling some 15,900 of its Routan model minivans for a sliding-door wiring defect that could cause a fire. The Routan model is made in the US by Chrysler, which on Monday recalled 284,831 cars also because of a fire risk.

German car giant Volkswagen confirmed on Wednesday that it would buy a 19.9 percent stake in Japan's Suzuki by January 2010. In return, Suzuki will also acquire a stake in Europe's biggest carmaker.
