Clinton sweeps West Virginia: US media

Wednesday 14 May 2008

US media sources project that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will win the West Virginia primary by a significant margin, although rival Barack Obama continues to lead in the broader race.

Special Report   The race to the White House

Hillary Clinton trounced her Democratic White House rival Barack Obama in Tuesday's West Virginia primary, US networks said, but the result would have little impact on their race overall.

In their projections, MSNBC and Fox said the former first lady had beaten her rival from Illinois by a margin of two to one in West Virginia. CNN said Clinton had won by a "wide margin."

The rural state was electing 28 Democratic delegates on a proportional basis, and even a big Clinton win would do little to dent Obama's growing lead in the broader race for the Democratic nomination.
