Remembering Auschwitz, 70 years on

On January 27, 1945, the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz in Poland was liberated by Soviet forces. Seventy years later, Holocaust survivors and heads of state from across Europe gather to commemorate the lives of the camp’s 1.1 million victims, the vast majority of whom were Jews.
