Gazprom threatens to cut off Ukraine gas

Russian national gas company Gazprom has told Ukraine it will cut off gas supplies to its neighbour at the beginning of January if a new contract is not agreed.

    Two men accused of killing two 23-year-old French students (pictured) at their London flat on June 29th pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and three other charges, paving the way for a full trial next year.

    Parliament ratifies Lisbon reform treaty
    Sweden became the 25th of the 27 EU members to ratify EU's Lisbon Reform Treaty. The plan - largely shaped by French President Nicolas Sarkozy - replaces the Euro Constitution which was rejected by French and Dutch voters in 2005.

    Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline on fire after blast
    An explosion rocked the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline between Iraq and Turkey on Friday, triggering a large fire, broadcaster CNN Turk reported. The possibility of a sabotage hasn't been ruled out.
  • AGRICULTURE
    EU ministers reach compromise on farm reform
    After a marathon negotiating session, EU farm ministers have come to a compromise on reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), notably with a reduction in subsidies for farmers. The changes will take effect from 2009 to 2013.
