AFP News Briefs ListSorenstam will retire at end of season: report
Annika Sorenstam, who won the 72nd title of her LPGA career on Sunday, will retire at the conclusion of the 2008 season, Golfweek magazine reported Tuesday.
The 37-year-old Swedish superstar and former world number one was expected to confirm her decision at an afternoon news conference here at the site of this week's Sybase Classic tour stop.
Sorenstam became the first player in LPGA history to surpass 22 million dollars in prize money with her victory Sunday at the Michelob Ultra Open.
According to Golfweek, second-ranked Sorenstam has postponed her wedding to Mike McGee until next April in an attempt to catch top-ranked Lorena Ochoa of Mexico before the end of her farewell season.
Sorenstam and Ochoa were among several players who rang the opening bell Tuesday at the New York Stock Exchange.
Sorenstam would like to start a family and focus on other interests, such as her golf academy, the report said.
