One dead, several hurt in Spanish barracks blast: reports

The explosion of a booby-trapped car in a civil guard barracks in Spain's restive Basque country on Wednesday killed at least one person and left several others wounded, Spanish media reported.

National RNE radio said one person was killed and three others were hurt while the newspaper El Pais spoke of at least one dead and several wounded.

Europa Press news agency said a civil guard was killed in the attack in the town of Legutiano which happened around 3:00 am (0100 GMT).

The paramilitary civil guard and the interior ministry were not immediately available to confirm the toll.

According to El Pais there was no warning by a person claiming to speak on behalf of the armed Basque separatist group ETA ahead of the explosion.
