Guatemalan interior minister killed in plane crash
Four people including Guatemalan Interior Minister Vinicio Gomez were killed in a plane crash north of the Guatemalan capital. Authorities say bad weather caused the crash.

VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico, June 27 (Reuters) - Guatemala's interior
minister died when a small plane crashed on Friday in bad weather
north of the Guatemalan capital, a government spokesman said.

All four people on board the aircraft were killed, including
Interior Minister Vinicio Gomez, Guatemala's presidential
spokesman Fernando Barillas told reporters.

"Bad weather caused the accident," Barillas said.

The plane took off from Guatemala City bound for the northern
jungle region of Peten, but crashed near the small town of Senahu,
Barillas said.

The country's deputy interior minister, Edgar Umana, also died
in the crash, as did the plane's pilot and co-pilot, Barillas
said.

Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom was in Mexico for a regional
summit.
