British galleries bid to keep priceless Titian painting

The Duke of Sutherland has granted the National Galleries of Scotland and London's National Gallery four months to collect the £50m required to purchase a masterpiece by Titian, before the painting goes on the private market for twice as much.

    The head and arm of a four-metre tall statue of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius have been found in Turkey by Belgian and Turkish archaeologists on a site where a large statue of emperor Hadrien was previously discovered.

    Scottish actor Sean Connery launched his long-awaited biography on Monday,"Being a Scot," in which he attributes his success to being Scottish. The book also details the influence of Connery's fellow Scots throughout history.

    US presidential hopeful Barack Obama has inspired street artist Shepard Fairey to create posters of him. In a pop art style reminiscent of propaganda posters, the work appears on many US streets and has the support of the Obama campaign.
