- German magazine Der Spiegel had reported that Saudi King Abdullah offered political asylum to Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar in agreement with US President George W. Bush and Afghan president Hamid Karzai.

- One of Burma's most famous comedians, who goes by the name of Zarganar, was sentenced Friday to 45 years in prison. Zarganar was arrested in June after organising aid deliveries to victims of Cyclone Nargis.
