AFP - Police are conducting searches in London as part of the investigation into a Nigerian man who attempted to blow up a US airliner flying from Amsterdam to Detroit, a police spokeswoman said Saturday.

"We are in liaison with the US authorities and searches in London are being conducted as part of ongoing enquiries," the spokeswoman said.

Some unconfirmed reports say the man, Abdul Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, is a student at University College London (UCL).

London's Metropolitan Police could not confirm those reports, and refused to reveal how many buildings were being searched, or the nature of the buildings.
