France build momentum with solid win over Lebanon

France continued to build momentum at the Basketball World Championship Sunday with a solid 89-56 victory over Lebanon. The French surprised spectators Saturday after upsetting defending world champions Spain in the opening round of the tournament.

AP - Mickael Gelabale scored 18 points and Alain Koffi added 17 as France beat Lebanon 86-59 on Sunday in the opening round of the basketball world championships.
 
France (2-0), which upset defending champion Spain 72-66 in its opener, broke this game open with a 10-0 run in the second quarter that gave it a 30-20 lead.
 
Jackson Vroman led Lebanon (1-1) with 19 points.
 
The game was delayed for over 15 minutes with 5:07 left in the second
 
quarter after France’s Nicolas Batum, who plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, dunked and twisted the rim. Volunteers and officials scrambled to put a new rim on the basket and reattach a net.
 
Just after play resumed, with France leading 36-22, Koffi went to power dunk on the new rim, but was blocked by Vroman.
