Its agriculture industry is thriving, and as a result the country has been given the nickname "the world's farm". But not everywhere in Brazil has been hit by this wave of good fortune. Corruption, bureaucracy, poor infrastructure, bad quality education and an overly strong currency are just some of the problems facing Lula's successor.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He's set to tour the east of the country, before travelling to neighbouring Rwanda and Uganda. His visit comes as violence has again flared up between the M23 rebel movement and the Congolese army, causing 30,000 people to flee the area. Mr Ban's trip also coincides with the arrival of 3,000 extra peacekeeping troops, the first time the UN will have an "offensive" mandate.

France is in the market for unmanned drones, the remotely controlled aircraft favoured by countries such as the US, whose military uses them to monitor difficult enemy terrain in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The current French fleet of drones was purchased 20 years ago and Paris wants to update it. But Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has come in for criticism after approaching US and Israeli manufacturers instead of encouraging French brands to start making them.

The Spanish government is set to close dozens of state-run rail routes and cut services on hundreds of other lines as Madrid struggles to right the country's recession-hit economy. The difference between Brazil and France is that, the Brazilians everyday wake up and try to make a living, and the French people wait for the social welfare.

The primary reason is Lula did so much for all the people, those at the top of the socio-economic ladder and those at the bottom. His humanitarian and economic policies will progress. And Brazil will continue to spawn entrepreneurs who are also human beings like Ricardo Semler, who is equally concerned with success in business and with the progress of "anthropology", that is his concern and actions for what is natural and humane for workers and people in general. If Lula's hand picked candidate wins the run off, as she is expected to do. Also the move away from the US and its meddling in South America, laid the foundation for Lula's success. Long live Brazil
