The summer is over for François Hollande, as is his political honeymoon following his election back in May. With unemployment hitting the 3 million threshold and the growing feeling this his Socialist government is moving too slowly to tackle the crisis, the president is going through his first real test. The dreaded numbers are in and they are not good. France needs to find 11 million euros to reach its budget deficit target this year and a whopping 33 billions for next year. This at a time when growth is expected to screech to a halt and as the euro crisis is still hovering on the horizon.

He came to power pledging to hold back the tide of austerity washing over Europe. But does Francois Hollande have the power to drive the French agenda through, when his German counterpart is calling for "more Europe"? It may be too early to shout federalism, but moves are a foot to create a banking union and to give the European Commission unprecedented oversight of national budgets.

While talking about things controversial,Jehovah's Witnesses have just won a major court case against the French government for wanting to tax their donations,singling them out of all the religious groups,appearing to show discriminatory action.Human rights prevail!

Love is not the issue at all, I suspect no one would deny the participants in homosexual, or even just same gender, but platonic relationships the right to become engaged with one another, but 'marriage', per se is not a matter for same gender couples.

There is absolutely nothing preventing people making legal arrangements to ensure the relationship is fully protected as far as property and personal safety is concerned without entering into the domain of 'marriage' recognised in the same manner as that between heterosexual couples.

The whole legal framework of 'marriage' has been established to ensure the birthrights of the family, which means children, and succeeding generations, having property and genetic values established and maintained.

Marriage has need to be even more rigidly protected from being warped by the claims of the homosexual fraternity, far more so whilst under the current round of attacks emanating from that fraternity.

'Love' does not even come into the arena,such an emotion is hardl;y, if actually recognised in nthe legality of trhe marriage contract. to make such claim is just another attemptm too undermine that contract.

Homosexuals can leave 'marriage' out of their agenda, and opt instead for some sort of civil contract, which may or may not parallel the established 'marriage' contract. but debasing that contract by allowing equal status is nothing short of an attempt to destruct the legitimate principles of millennia.

Anne Boring, Secretary General Foundation Égalité is correct, Gay Marriage will continue to be an issue until homosexual men and women attain equal rights. Children within a marriage is not the debate and surrogate motherhood is a blessing also for straight couples who can't have children, so this argument by Bruno Vecrkin is quite silly. The humiliation has indeed grown intolerable and gay people will continue to push back. Was the word "Love" mentioned even once? Isn't that the reason for marriage?
