The Pope's visit: the role of religion today? (part2)
Benedict XVI is in Madrid for a four day visit, starting off with World Youth Day. An estimated one and a half million people are expected to visit the event, and with that in mind Laura Baines asks her guests if faith could be the answer to many of the ills plaguing modern society? Or does too much focus on the afterlife mean that we neglect the chance to make life on earth better for everybody?

This comment relates to a broadcast 13 Nov 20012, because there seems to be no other place to put a comment about Laura Baines interview today with a guy from Israel complaining about the Koran and Islam. He said that the Koran had things in it against Jews, but the Torah has no such language. If true why is has Israel been engaged in 60 years of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine? And are Arabs who target Jews anti-semitic or anti-Israeli?
By Laura calling the people who attack Jewish targets as anti-Semitic, she seems to excuse ethnic cleansing that is not exactly a secret; Israeli papers recently reported that a majority of Israeli citizens prefer apartheid (time to apologize for calling Jimmy Carter anti-semitic for saying exactly that in his book). I am not anti-semitic, my ex-wife was Jewish, many of my friends, at least half, are Jewish, but I am against ethnic Cleansing. Being for ethnic cleansing is no different than being for the KKK in the US South, or being for the Nazis. You don't admit to being opposed to riding on bus with a black person, do you? In Israel, some (not all) of the orthodox don't want women to mix with men on buses, and they assault 8 year old girls who dress wrong. Are you for that? Okay, but you are odd, most people are not. Make up your mind not to be prejudiced, there are bad Jews, and bad Arabs, and both can be good. Quit assuming that people who attack Jews care about the Torah, they care about the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.
The Pope wears gold
These are questions I am constantly struggling with. Can we as a society move past religion and begin founding our morals on something outside of The Bible?
I have painted a painting titled The Pope wears gold in hopes of again spotlighting problem areas that the church continues to cover up. http://www.postmodernrevelation.com
