Vatican rejects Irish criticism over child sex abuse

The Vatican rejected Saturday criticisms by the Irish government that it undermined efforts by Irish bishops to report priests who sexually abused children to the police. It said the criticisms were “unfounded” and “inaccurate”.

Thank you, as usual, for a clear and informed report on the reply from the Vatican. The whole report has a strong legalistic tone. Great care has been put into it to make sure that no blame will accrue to the Vatican or it loyal bishops in Ireland which might be grounds for compensation.
