I think the writer is a bit biased against Sarkozy who did not go after popularity but did what he felt was the right thing to keep France stable, even to the extent of imposing unpopular moves such as extending the age of retirement, forbidding the use of burqua by Muslim women in France, etc.

I will be fine with losing the Elysee Palace and the presidency to have a beautiful woman like Ms. Carla Bruni. But, how special has to be a woman to be fine with losing Eden and eternity?
His era was not that bad though he was outspoken. He committed blunders and eventually paid for them. But he was a jolly good man who enjoyed life. I wish him good luck.
