Greek exit - the chronicle of a death foretold

In today's pick of the press - should Greece's exit strategy have been planned for years ago, and will Hollande manage to convince Merkel of anything?

The Independent says Greece pulling out of the euro was always going to happen - and should have been planned for years ago - while the Guardian looks at various different exit scenarios, all of them fairly apocalyptic.

There's more optimism about Hollande and Merkel - the New York Times says the new president is probably easier to get on with than Sarkozy, while Der Tagesspiegel says Merkel needs to realise that growth would help her out electorally too.

The suicide of a man in Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral sparks the admiration of far-right politicians. A video allegedly showing his death fanned the flames of the Second Intifada. But the Israeli papers wonder if putting the picture back in people’s minds won't cause Israel more harm than good.

INTERNATIONAL PAPERS, Mon. 20/05/13: Tunisian papers are optimistic democracy will prevail given the recent Salafist violence. Algerian meanwhile say the conditions are similar to Algeria in the 1990s in the lead up to the civil war. Algerian papers are also reacting to the censoring of two dailies over an article that alleged President Abdelaziz Bouteflika had slipped into a coma. Also, China’s Prime Minister visits India while many Indians are sceptical about Beijing's intentions.
