Le Pen calls for ban on veils and skullcaps in public

Wearing the full face-covering veil is already banned in public places in France and now the leader of France’s far-right National Front party wants this to apply to all veils as well as Jewish skullcaps.

Isn't it obvious ?

I agree with most of the comments below, but what I'd like to say is.... Isn't it obvious what Marine Le Pen is trying to do?? She's wanting to make it so uncomfortable and unacceptable for Muslims and Jews to live in France - she wants them all out!

She wants an "all-white" France. Isn't it obvious??

Where do you draw the line?

What constitutes a religious item of clothing? A baseball cap with a Heavy Metal Pagan logo on it? An Egyptian Ankh on a chain? A Hindu Aum logo on a badge? What about the Rastafari colours?

What about hair and beards? That is usually a clear sign in many religions?

It is unworkable and un-policeable . The face covering ban made sense because it is anti social and a security risk, so is the ban on religious items in schools fine; but that is all that is needed.

won't work

While controlling head gear that stops facial identification is one thing stopping people from wearing skull caps or crosses or a muslim head covering that does not hide the face is the same as preventing people from practicing their religion. There is a difference between not having a state religion and not allowing people to practice their religion.

Ban Religious Caps and Garments

I hundred percent agree that in all secular and democratic countries No ONE should wear a hat or skull cap that shows their religious affiliation. This is like when Hitler forced jews to wear some sort of ID as a Jew. That should never be allowed all over EU and every civilized Country of the World where secularism is the State policy like in India.

Unworkable

She really has not thought this one through. Most Jews do not wear their Kippah to work or on the street, and anyway it is just a small cap. If a Jew feels he needs to cover his head outside of the Synagogue he can wear a hat or baseball cap, and many do.

Just about all religious leaders be they Priests, Rabbis or Imams wear a hat of some sort, is she wanting to ban those too?

Banning the face covering Burka was correct, but you can't ban head gear, because most people wear hats, caps and scarves.
