British marine officials were in talks with their French counterparts on Thursday after sea clashes broke out between British and French scallop fishermen. The French argue that their UK counterparts are “pillaging” resources too early in the year.

how typical

Typical Brits... they've depleted their own stock so now that have to rape the sea on the other side. I think the French should have sunk those boats... afterall, down deep, way deep, brits are good people.

French and Brits should have a fishing cooperative

There should be some universal control for the harvesting of the scallops. In principle the French fishermen are correct in their management of the stock -- the control is however not good enough. There should be some united effort by fishermen in the region to work together to replenish and harvest effectively and harmoniously.

scallop fishing

THERE IS PLENTY FOR EVERYONE...SO WHY ARE THE FRENCH BITCHING AS USUAL ..ANGRY BECAUSE WE ARE SHARP AND ON THE BALL!

The French do the same in British waters

French trawlers are fishing in the Irish sea while British trawlers are prevented by our Government. It would be better is the bans were complete to give stocks a real chance to recover instead of this mess. However, the French fishermen's attack on defenseless vessels (since when do their boats carry half bricks aboard?) was organised and premeditated with a TV Camera crew on board. A nasty publicity stunt on legally fishing boats.

French fishcowardsmen

Last comment failed to appear, but the gist of it was that it took 40 French fishing boats to surround 5 British boats in a courageous show of heroism. Well done to them. They deserve at least the highest honour that the government of France can bestow upon them. The Legion d'honeaur I think. Well done.

Accuracy of reporting?

"A sea scuffle between French and British fisherman"
Ha hah. What you actually mean is that French fishermen attacked British fishermen while the responsible authorities, the French, did nothing about it.

International waters

Now that it is publicized I would expect to see boats from Spain and Portugal join in the harvest.
