Riots erupt in Sidi Bouzid over dropped candidate

Officials in Sidi Bouzid imposed a curfew on Friday following unrest over the town's leading candidate being dropped from Sunday's ballot on suspicions of corruption. The moderate Islamist Ennahda party won a majority in the vote.

Eleven policemen and three others were hurt during riots in a Shiite-majority village, a Saudi state news agency reported Tuesday. Citing the interior ministry, the agency said the unrest was caused by "outlaws and rioters on motorbikes".
