Police arrest two after deadly suicide bombing

Yemeni police arrested two men wearing explosive belts just hours after a suicide attack on a battalion killed 96 soldiers, a security official said Tuesday. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility for the attack.

Yemen vows 'war on terror' as al-Qaeda claims blast

Yemen's president Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi vowed Monday to press on with the "war on terror" after at least 96 people were killed in an attack in the middle of an army battalion in Sanaa, for which al-Qaeda claimed credit.

Lockerbie bomber Megrahi dies in Libya, brother says

Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, the only person convicted over the 1988 Lockerbie bombing that killed 270 people, died on Sunday, his brother said. Megrahi had been in Libya since his 2009 release from prison on compassionate grounds owing to ill health.

Gunmen kill senior Afghan peace negotiator

In a major blow to Afghanistan's peace process, gunmen shot dead a former Taliban minister and top negotiator from the country's High Peace Council on Sunday, police said. Maulvi Arsala Rahmani had been involved in negotiations with insurgents.

Two men dressed in Afghan police uniforms opened fire on coalition troops in the south of the country on Saturday leaving two UK soldiers dead, according to a NATO statement.
