Paris commemorates deadly Algerian War protest

France's left-wing parties commemorated the 50-year anniversary of the Feb. 8, 1962 killing by French police of nine demonstrators protesting the war in Algeria at the Paris Charonne metro station. The state's role in the killings remains divisive.

Algerian nationalist Abdelhamid Mehri dies aged 85

In Algeria tributes were paid to Abdelhamid Mehri, one of the country's most famous political figures, after he passed away at the age of 85. Meanwhile, the Algerian government has said that it has nothing to hide as a French investigation into the kidnapping and deaths of 7 monks during the Algerian civil war back in 1996 continues. Finally, we meet an odd couple in Morocco, whose story has inspired a French comedy hit.

Moroccan FM in fence-mending trip to Algeria

Morocco's new foreign minister Saad Eddine Othmani (pictured) began a diplomatic tour of Algeria on Monday to "breathe new life" into bilateral ties. It is the first visit by a Moroccan foreign minister to Algiers since 2003.

Algeria's Bouteflika sacks head of state energy firm

Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika fired the managing director of state energy giant Sonatrach Thursday, naming another senior official at the firm to the post. Sonatrach accounts for 98 percent of oil-rich Algeria’s foreign exchange earnings.
