Former Marseille coach gets two years prison

The current trainer of Montpellier and former Marseille football coach Rolland Courbis was sentenced to two-years in jail by an appeal court for accepting illegal transfer payments between 1997 and 1999.

Former Marseille football coach Rolland Courbis was sentenced to two-years in jail by an appeal court here on Wednesday for accepting illegal transfer payments between 1997 and 1999.
The current trainer of second division Montpellier was also fined 200,000 euros (284,000 dollars).
Principal club shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus received a 10-month suspended prison sentence and a 200,000 euros fine.
Courbis had initally received a total sentence of three-and-half years in prison when he was convicted in June 2006 for complicity in the abuse of company assets.
Louis-Dreyfus was originally sentenced to a three-year suspended prison term and a 375,000 euros fine, when convicted for abuse of company assets.
The case involved the transfers of 15 former players including that of former France international striker Christophe Dugarry and former Italy forward Fabrizio Ravanelli.
Three other men involved in the affair also received prison sentences Wednesday in the court of appeal.
The players agent Gilbert Sau was sentenced to 18 months in prison with his associate Bernard Almeras, receiving a one year prison term with six months suspended.
Former players agent and currentlyw director of Belgian club Standard de Liege, Licio d'Onofrio, was sentenced to two years prison of which 18 months was suspended.
