    Protesters free airport as Thai court bans PM
    Thailand’s Constitutional Court found the ruling coalition guilty of vote fraud and banned Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat from politics for five years. Protesters will allow flights to resume but travellers remain stranded until Dec. 15.

    Alliance renews limited ties with Moscow
    NATO has agreed to thaw relations with Russia after suspending them in the wake of Moscow's military incursion into Georgia last August, but NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer says the relationship will remain "conditional".

    Carmakers request $34 billion in state aid
    The three big US carmakers, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler, have asked for a combined $34 billion in government credit to revitalize their companies. Data shows U.S. auto sales fell for the 13th straight month in November.

    Iraq's notorious "Chemical Ali" Hassan al-Majid has been sentenced to death - for the second time - for crimes against humanity committed during Saddam Hussein's brutal 1991 campaign to crush a Shia uprising.

    Radical cleric Abu Qatada back in jail
    Abu Qatada, the radical cleric once known as Bin Laden's "right-hand man" in Europe, has been ordered back in prison for breaching his bail terms. Released in June under strict terms, Qatada was suspected of attempting to leave Britain.
