FRANCE 24 sent a special team of correspondents - Franck Berruyer, Armen Georgian and Meriem Amellal - to Algeria to cover the May 17 legislative election.

On May 17, the Algerian public voted for the coalition, held together by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to return to power, after they won 249 of the 389 seats available, a reduction of 48 seats from the last elections.

However, a backdrop of violence caused less than a third of registered voters to place their mark.
