Rotterdam wins nod to host 2010 Tour de France departure

The 97th edition of the Tour de France will push off from Rotterdam in July 2010, in what will be the fifth time a Dutch city has been selected as the event's starting point.

    England's young generation beat Germany 2-1 to take its fifth straight win. The Mannschaft was defeated for the first time in Berlin since 1973. Elsewhere, Holland were impressive 3-1 winners over Sweden, and Italy drew 1-1 with Greece.

    Argentina enjoyed a 1 to 0 victory over Scotland with an early Maxi Rodriguez goal. It was the first match for former star Diego Maradona as new football coach for Argentina. In other friendly games, England beat Germany 2-1.

    Former AC Milan and Real Madrid star Ronaldo has for the first time admitted he was thinking of retiring from professional football. The Brazilian 32-year old player has been without any contract since this summer.

    Seven-time Tour winner, Lance Armstrong, who announced his return to the race in 2009, said in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian that he feared crowd aggressiveness over suspicion of doping that tarnished the race's image.

    Quizzed about Terry Butcher's assertion that he could never forgive Maradona for the 'Hand of God' goal that helped knock England out of the 1986 World Cup, Argentina's new coach said he didn't "know why Butcher is taking this attitude".
