Three people executed in Japan

The Japanese Justice ministry has confirmed that it has executed three people including an infamous serial killer convicted for killing four girls. Japan is the only major industrialised country other than the US to apply the death penalty.

Japan's justice ministry confirmed that it executed three people on Tuesday, including notorious cannibal serial killer Tsutomu Miyazaki.

In a brief statement, it said three death-row inmates were hanged across Japan including Miyazaki, who was convicted of murdering four girls.

The other two who were executed were both convicted murders, Shinji Mutsuda and Yoshio Yamasaki, the statement said.

Japan is the only major industrialised country other than the United States to apply the death penalty.
