Taliban 'stage' deadly bus attack in Kandahar
Issued on: Modified:
Taliban militants captured and killed "dozens" of bus passengers in the restive southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Thursday, according to a senior Afghan police official and Taliban sources.
Taliban militants hijacked a bus in southern Afghanistan last week and may have killed as many as 40 passengers, officials said Sunday, although only six bodies have been recovered.
A spokesman for the insurgent group confirmed that the militia had captured the passengers as they travelled in Kandahar province and said 27 of them were killed because they were soldiers.
Provincial police said the toll from Thursday's incident could be as high as 40.
