Joan ‘Nani’ Roma, fourth in the overall standings, also crossed the finish line in fourth place at Copiapo after one of the most difficult stages of the rally, in the Atacama desert.
Dominique Serieys, age 47, is the sport director general of Mitsubishi Motors. He won Dakar in 1993, as copilot to Bruno Saby.
A good day in the Atacama. 'The stage went ok, though it was really difficult. The engine has been overheating in the last few days, but we solved that problem. We deserve our fourth place.'
Aiming for the podium. ‘We will give Robby Gordon a run for his money (fifth in the overall standings behind Nani Roma, editors note) if he wants to catch up with us. We are going to attack as well. We want be on the podium in Buenos Aires.'
