Carol Bartz named next Yahoo! CEO

Internet company Yahoo! announced that influential businesswoman Carol Bartz will replace Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang as CEO of the pioneering Internet firm. She is a former chief executive of the software company Autodesk.

AFP - Carol Bartz, a veteran Silicon Valley executive and former chief executive of software company Autodesk, has been named CEO of Yahoo!, the Internet company announced on Tuesday.

Yahoo!, in a statement, said the appointment of Bartz, as CEO of the Sunnyvale, California firm was effective immediately.

Bartz, 60, replaces Yahoo! founder Jerry Yang, who stepped down as CEO on November 18 after more than a year in the position.

"We are very excited to have Carol Bartz leading Yahoo! into its next era of growth," said Roy Bostock, chairman of Yahoo!'s board of directors.

"She is the exact combination of seasoned technology executive and savvy leader that the Board was looking for, and we are thrilled to have attracted such a world-class talent to Yahoo!."
