Three candidates shot dead ahead of provincial elections

On Thursday, just two days before provincial elections in Iraq, gunmen killed three candidates in separate incidents. One victim was a Sunni Arab from the National Unity List party, another was of the Sunni Arab Islamic party.


REUTERS - Gunmen killed three candidates on Thursday in separate incidents two days before provincial polls in Iraq, police said.


A Sunni Arab candidate from the National Unity List party was shot outside his home in Mosul, the volatile capital of Nineveh province in Iraq's north, police said. In Baghdad's Ameriya district gunmen killed a candidate from the Sunni Arab Islamic Party near his house.


A third candidate was gunned down in Diyala Province north of Baghdad.
