INTERNATIONAL PRESS REVIEW: The Guardian in the UK and 55 other newspapers around the world are speaking with one voice this morning. Their editorials call on delegates in Copenhagen to ‘make the right choice’.
In an unprecedented move, 56 newspapers around the world have run the same editorial this morning. It calls on delegates at the climate change summit in Copenhagen to seize the moment.
“We call on the representative of the 192 countries present not to hesitate, not to fall into dispute, not to blame each other but to seize opportunity from the greatest modern failure of politics.”
It goes on to lament the fact that the world finds itself at the mercy of American domestic politics. The President cannot fully commit to the action required until the US Congress has done so.
The editorial concludes that generation of politicians is faced with a choice. “[They can either] be viewed as one that saw a challenge and rose to it, or one so stupid that we saw calamity coming but did nothing to avert it. We implore them to make the right choice.”
