St Etienne coach Alain Perrin gets the sack after string of defeats

St Etienne have sacked coach Alain Perrin, 53, and replaced him with assistant Christophe Galtier after a string of poor showings that included just one win in nine games. Les Verts are currently fourth from bottom in France's Ligue 1.

AFP - Saint-Etienne announced on Tuesday that they have sacked Alain Perrin as coach just 13 months after appointing the former Lyon and Portsmouth boss and replaced him with assistant Christophe Galtier.

The club, who have won ten league titles and six domestic cups but who have spent recent years moving up and down between the top two divisions, currently stand fourth-bottom in the table, just three points above the drop zone after one win in nine games.

Before joining Les Verts, Perrin, 53, took neighbouring Lyon to a league and French Cup double in 2007-08, three years on from an ill-fated six-month stint at Portsmouth.
