The Red-Bull team is celebrating in Buenos Aires. Cyril Despres has got his revenge at last after losing out to Marc Coma in 2009.

The French driver spoke to FRANCE24.com shortly after his victory, declaring, "It has been a superb Dakar. It was 15 difficult days. But there is no way to win a 9,000 km race alone."

The champion hopes to take part in the race next year in South America, "which is like Dakar’s home."

After five years trying, Sainz gets his trophy

After battling through the challenges of the Dakar Rally for the past five years, Carlos Sainz can now admire the trophy on his mantelpiece.

Sainz has spent years trying to overcome Mistubishi’s domination, the former double WRC world champion, aka 'El Matrador' can fully enjoy his victory.

"I have fulfilled a dream by winning the Dakar. An enormous weight has been lifted from my shoulders; particularly as this victory was so hard won both physically and mentally. I’m incredibly happy to have achieved this goal after having been so close to victory on several occasions," he declared after the win.
