Sarkozy tries to appease Catholics

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has met with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. Critics believe the visit to the pontiff was a way for President Sarkozy to repair his relationship with France's Catholic community. He has come under fire from this group after a series of controversies since his election in 2007. The most recent is France's policy to deport Roma Gypsies from France to Romania and Bulgaria.
