Web users pick Lionel Messi for 2010 Ballon d'Or

Text by FRANCE 24

Latest update : 2011-01-10

More than half our readers would like to see Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi receive a second Ballon d'or tonight in Zurich, ahead of World Cup winners Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta of Spain.

"I would give it to Messi simply because he is the best player in the world by a country mile. You may argue he did not score in World Cup, but he was still phenomenal throughout the tournament, supplying plenty of assists and carrying his team through to the quarter-finals..."

Brian is not the only one to think that Argentina's Lionel Messi should receive the 2010 Ballon d'or. A  majority of France24.com readers (56%) voted for the Barcelona striker. He was followed by Xavi Hernandez (29%) and Andres Iniesta (15%), who was the favourite among French voters (40%).

FIFA and French weekly France Football will vote from tonight 8pm (GMT+1) in Zurich.
